I think the title “sniper panic” says it all. xD At first I was thinking of how terrible they were to put that guy in that situation, but now I know it rarely ever happens in Japan, it’s kind of funny. Comedy is all about reactions, after all.

I really don’t like the sarcastic tones in the comments though…If you don’t like it, just say it.

How do you know he didn`t deserve it? Maybe he is a bad, bad man. Maybe he lies to his mother. Maybe he cheats on exams…maybe he jumps the queue at bus-stops!

thanks yuni96. your calls for censorship sounds like you want to neutralise critical opinion. i thought that only happened in china. what is there to hide? and why bring race into it? the only question raised on this site is the race-neutral question of: 'is it okay to make someone think that they are gonna die an execution style death for the sake of comedy?' no-one here wrote “This would be totally unacceptable in the USA”. i also like your quote: "so if your going to be offended by it, don’t watch it…" how do you know if you are going to be offended or not without watching it? and your comment here where you say "Those of you who thought it was funny, you'd have a great time watching tv when in Japan." or in other words, you are only allowed to express your opinion if you thought it was funny. there was an incident in australia only a couple of weeks ago where an act on australian tv offended americans. people have opinions and they should be allowed to express them regardless if they differ from yours. ps the sniper clip in question was actually played, with permission, on prime time australian tv. so i don't think that you are quite right when you say " they would most likely cut this portion out of the show"

It is not staged, by meaning the comedian Katoh(the victim) did not know he was going to be punked this day. It was a fake interview. Everyone else was in the act, and the producer along with the other comedians of the show thought up the whole scenario. Regarding 24, of course it is a show shown worldwide, and the reference is made here because the first thind the Japanese people think of when they hear sniper is “24″. Just because it uses 24 music and references, it does not mean this program is made for worldwide audiences. You do understand that tv and movies are all edited from country to country to abide by the country in context, right? If the Japanese TV station were to distribute this show in the US, they would most likely cut this portion out of the show. That is what I’m trying to say. This is Japanese TV made for Japanese audiences. Socially and legally acceptable (maybe only)in Japan. You guys are watching it on the net uncensored. So if your going to be offended by it, don’t watch it… “This would be totally unacceptable in the USA” fine, good point made, and I understand. just leave it at that.

so, if it is just a ‘comedy show’ and the participants are just ‘comedians’ and they take turns in doing pranks on each other and it is not a valid scenario to have guns in japan THEN this whole thing is just staged.

and you say that the audience thinks this is funny. to watch a deliberately arranged theatrical performance.

wow. weird!

also, you say that ‘these Japanese shows are only shown in Japan, for Japanese audiences’ and that suggest that nobody outside of japan should be watching them YET the theme of this particular show is based upon the American show 24 (as you also mention) which is readily available in most countries without any such racial restrictions.

it’s not a game show… It’s a comedy show all participants are comedians, and they take turns pranking each other. People on Japanese tv are all celebrities. Ordinary people don’t get any airtime here. In Japan people don’t have guns. It’s illegal, even the cops (who do have handguns) you could never find one who’s actually fired one in a line of duty. WE HAVE NO GUN PROBLEMS IN JAPAN. So this sniper prank is straight out of fantasy. Something we only see on tv (like 24) here. That is why it’s funny. This wouldn’t be funny in some baltic states or in the US, Mexico, I understand that. But you must understand that these Japanese shows are only shown in Japan, for Japanese audiences. What you see on the net are illegally uploaded. Of course they may offend some people in other cultures. They were never meant for you to watch them.

That is pretty sick. Poor b*****d, he really did not deserve that.
Can you imagine if that happened to you?

I almost could not watch to the end of it.
I’ve seen some bad hidden camera stunts, but that has to be one of the worst.
It makes me very glad I don’t have a TV.
