We made our way out the Shinsekai district of Osaka to check out Tsūtenkaku (or “Tower Reaching Heaven”). This was no Tōkyō Tower, but worth a visit all the same.

Tsūtenkaku
Tsūtenkaku stands at a total height of 103 metres and the main observation deck is at a height of 91 metres. Like I said, no Tōkyō Tower which stands at just under 333 metres.

The tower looks like a cold war relic, and with it’s history, I guess it was. It was originally built in 1912 however was dismantled in 1943 by the Japanese government in fear that it would serve as target practice for American bombing raids on Osaka. The iron in the tower was melted down and used for war material.
After the war, the tower was re-built and a second-generation tower was re-opened 28 October 1956
