The Ōsaka Castle was originally completed in 1583. It was built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, with the help of about 100,000 workers over a 3 year period, as a display of power after he unified Japan.
Over the years it has been destroyed and rebuilt. The present structure is a 1931 reconstruction of the original castle which was refurbished in 1997.
